Year ender 2023
Year ender 2023: Major changes announced by CBSE over the year.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced several changes to this year’s board exam pattern, responding to feedback from stakeholders.
1. No overall division, distinction, or aggregate:
CBSE will not award overall division, distinction, or aggregate to students appearing for the Class 10 and Class 12 exams in 2024. This decision is in response to requests from candidates seeking clarification on criteria for calculating percentages. The board will neither calculate nor declare the percentage of marks.
2. Release of sample question papers and marking scheme:
CBSE has released 60 sample question papers for Class 10 and 77 for Class 12, along with the corresponding marking scheme. These resources are available on the official website of CBSE, cbse.nic.in.
3. No answer books in Accountancy:
Starting from the Board Examination in 2024, CBSE will eliminate the answer books with tables provided in the subject of Accountancy. Instead, normal line answer books, consistent with other Class 12 subjects, will be provided. This change is effective from the board exams in 2023-24.
4. Special arrangement for sports and Olympiad participants:
For students participating in national or international sports events and international Olympiads, CBSE will conduct special exams at a later date, allowing them to balance academics and extracurricular activities. Recognised sports and Olympiads are eligible for this arrangement.
5. Boards exams twice a year, the best score retained:
In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the new curriculum framework (NCF) enables board exams to be conducted twice a year. Students can retain their best score and choose to appear for exams in subjects they have completed and feel prepared for.
Class 11 and 12 students will need to study two languages, with at least one being an Indian language, providing flexibility in subject choices without stream restrictions.
